Research who, how, and why uses the “World of Communities” Training Game, 2019

My journey with World of Communities began in 2016. Since then, my team and I have shared this experience with hundreds, if not thousands, of practitioners of innovative game-based civic education methods. The “World of Communities” game is a tool that brings together a vibrant community of unique and inspiring individuals whose actions, both big and small, continuously shape the world around us.
Each year, we reflect on who these individuals are, what inspires them, the challenges they tackle, and how their partnership with World of Communities helps them achieve their professional goals—be they ambitious or routine—and foster personal growth.I’d like to share the latest findings from our annual user profile study and discoveries about what the “World of Communities” game-training meant to our entire community in 2019.
The 2019 research was carried out using an online questionnaire, with 113 certified “World of Communities” game masters taking part.
If you’re hearing about this tool for the first time, congratulations! Your life will never be the same again :)

A Quick Introduction to “World of Communities”

“World of Communities” is a Ukrainian cooperative strategy board game designed for leaders and change managers in the genre of social simulation. The game mechanics are closely aligned with real-life situations, and winning is only possible through cooperation and interaction.
The game was conceived and developed as a tool for automating learning (including self-learning) for individuals who care about the communities they live in. It is a response to conventional and uninspiring approaches to community development and the implementation of reforms.
“World of Communities” enables the automation and scaling of civic education, helping to shape relevant values, behavioral patterns, and 21st-century skills. Thoughtful and strategic use of this training game challenges stereotypes about community management and helps identify and attract internal investments for community growth.

Game Masters' Feedback

Even to me, as the head of the OTG, the game made it clear that the community is a complex structure in which everything is interconnected. Something goes wrong and a chain reaction occurs. And in the game we see all this in a few hours, not months or years.
