Be Ready!
City on the Edge

A simulation game about local leaders, city resilience, and the real cost of difficult decisions — developed in Ukraine for the world.
Players: 3–5 | Duration: 60–90 min | Ages: 16+ | Language: EN / UA

— The game's collective defeat condition · Based on real Ukrainian experience

"One strong city cannot save a country if the others are in ruins."

War as a learning context

Stay a leader

You are a mayor. Your city is under pressure — from missile strikes, refugee waves, energy blackouts, and disinformation. You have limited resources. You have difficult choices. And your decisions affect not just your own city, but the survival of the whole country.

Cooperate

Be Ready! City on the Edge is a cooperative simulation board game developed in Ukraine in 2026. It translates three years of documented Ukrainian municipal experience into an experiential learning format for adult audiences worldwide.

This is not a war game

It is a game about resilience, resource allocation, collective action, and the real complexity of local governance under extreme conditions. Players leave with more than knowledge — they leave with visceral understanding of what Ukrainian communities have faced.

Game structure

  • November 2021 -- No effects. Communities live normally. Should anyone prepare for catastrophe?

  • 23 Feb 2022 -- Children went to school as usual. Nobody knew it was the last peaceful morning.

  • 24 Feb 2022 -- 4:00 a.m. Full-scale invasion. First shock. First choices. First window of opportunity.

  • May 2022 -- Systematic strikes on border cities. Will rear cities coordinate — or watch from a distance?

  • July 2022 -- Millions move. Mariupol falls. The rear faces a choice: solidarity or collapse.

  • October 2022 -- Systematic blackouts. Dark streets. Generators in every courtyard. This is the new winter.

  • Now -- Vote: rebuild together — or every city for itself? The last strategic decision.

— From the game's rulebook · Be Ready! City on the Edge · Ukraine, 2026

"This is not an entertainment game. It is a tool for reflection and solidarity. If, after playing, you want to learn more about real Ukrainian municipal resilience — that is exactly what we hoped for."

World of Communities

We are a Ukrainian professional team of game designers, facilitators, and systems thinkers. Our flagship product — the cooperative simulation game World of Communities — has been through three editions, translated into English and Romanian, and certified over 450 facilitators across Ukraine and internationally.
We believe that the most complex topics — war, governance, resilience, identity — deserve the most sophisticated methodological tools. Games are not a simplification. They are a different kind of seriousness.
Be Ready! City on the Edge was developed with the support of DVV International Ukraine as part of a broader effort to share the Ukrainian adult education experience with European partners.
